Tips To Keep Star Employees From Leaving

There comes a time in many people’s lives when they are faced with a tough decision- leave the job they are currently at in search of one that better suits them, or stay.  More often than not, many people end up staying at jobs they’re not particularly happy with out of fear of not being able to find something better. This is especially distressing for employers, who fear that some of their best employees might be setting their sights elsewhere.  If you’re concerned that you could potentially lose a valuable team member, here are a few tips to keep your star employees happy.

Make Them Feel Like Equals

While there is always going to be a certain power dynamic between you and your employees, it is important to do your best to show them that their feelings and opinions matter.  No one wants to feel like they’re working under somebody without much opportunity for career advancement, so make sure your employees know that you appreciate their hard work. Think of your employees as your business partners, and try your best to include them in meetings and conversations that may be relevant to them.  By doing this, your employees will feel that they are valuable members of your team (because they are!), and being included in company affairs will serve as a nice boost of confidence for them.

Recognize Them For Good Work

Everyone likes a pat on the back for a job well done, and your employees are no exception.  Next time one of your team members goes above and beyond, make sure to properly recognize them.  Receiving praise and recognition for good work is something most employees desire, so make sure you’re paying special attention to your team’s accomplishments.  You can also consider nominating employees for monthly or weekly recognition, as a way to inspire your team to push themselves and strive for personal growth. Recognizing and rewarding your employees when they’ve done a good job is one of the best ways to hang onto your star employees and make them feel valuable at work.

Make Your Office’s Culture Fun

More than anything, most people want to look forward to waking up and coming to work each day.  Because of this, it is extremely important that you make your company’s culture as fun and exciting as possible.  Google, for example, is known for being one of the best places to work mainly because of how well the company treats their employees.  Google employees have access to some incredible perks, including free meals, workout classes, and free shuttle services to go to and from work each day.  While some of these perks may not be realistic for every company, you can still create a positive and fun company culture that’s unique to your office. Offering things like free or discounted gym memberships, paid time off, and healthy snacks for work are all great ways to show your appreciation for your employees and make them feel like valuable members of your team.
