Small Ways to Stay Healthy at Work

Work can get in the way of healthy living. The amount of time it takes away from you and the type of work you do can make you lose focus, but the following are a few ways you can advance your healthy lifestyle in small ways at work.

Fight Sugar Cravings

Sugar is a good thing because it helps give you a boost of energy, but too much of this can hurt you in various ways. Excess sugar can lead to tooth decay, hurt your immune system, increase the risk of obesity, and it even accelerates aging.

What is worse is that most people consume heavily processed sugar, which doesn’t contain trace minerals found in unrefined sugar, like sucanat.

Work on Snacks

One reason you need to curve your cravings is because many of the foods available to people are heavily processed. You can curve your cravings by simply having good alternatives with you. There are a lot of things you can bring with you to work, like a bag full of nuts and dried fruits. You can also try keto multivitamins to keep your body balanced.

Make sure the dried fruit hasn’t been altered with heavily processed sugar. You can also purchase a dehydrate and dehydrate pieces of meat that you can bring along with you to work. You’d be surprised how tasty and filling meat can be. The protein alone should give you enough energy throughout the day and stop you from eating bad food.

Bring in Fitness

Exercise can be hard for some people, especially those who work a sedentary job. It may be hard to exercise at work since you can’t just start doing some push-ups in the middle of nowhere, but that doesn’t mean you can’t exercise at all.

There are a few things you can do to be a little more active at work, like you can walk during your breaks even if it is just from one end of the office to the other. If you walk during your entire break, then that’s a positive thing. You should also make it a point to always take the stairs to give your body a little more to do throughout the day.

Care for Your Eyes

Those who work on computers or other smart devices are probably staring at a screen all day. This is not a good thing for your eyes, especially if you aren’t protecting your eyes a bit. One thing you can remember is to make sure you are sitting at least at arm’s length from your screen. Doing this not only helps with your posture but reduces the strain your eyes might be in.

Another thing you’ll have to do with your eyes is look away from the screen every 15 minutes. Focus on something else during these small breaks; focus on something further away, and allow your eyes to rest. It’s important that you remember to blink. You tend to blink less when you are focused on a screen, which can dry out your eyes and irritate them.

Work on Relaxation

Stress can inhibit your immune system. It can make it harder to control your emotions, and it could even elevate your blood pressure. The problem is that stress is sometimes a natural feeling at work. You have deadlines to worry about; you’ve got a supervisor who is expecting results, and who knows what else you’ve got to worry about.

The idea of doing something to tackle stress at work may seem impossible, but that is not the case. You can do something about it if you learn how to relax even if it’s just during one of your breaks. For example, you can try guided meditation using your headphones for a few minutes, or you can listen to relaxing nature sounds as you work for a bit of serenity.

A person can be creative enough to sneak in health at work, so hopefully, you can try some of these if not all to try to be healthier. Your doctor may have additional ideas for you, so make sure you talk to him or her about your health goals.
