Leisure Report: 6 Ways Successful Entrepreneurs Spend Their Free Time

It’s well-known that in order to be a successful entrepreneur, you have to have a passion for what you do, and it’s the passion that fuels their success. And although hard work is embedded in the DNA of all successful entrepreneurs, they also know that there has to be a balance between the two… They’ll be the first ones to tell you that even they need downtime to be the inspiring and creative problem-solvers they are to keep their success going full speed.

The thing that entrepreneurs have down pat is working hard and playing hard. They know that when it’s time to work, it’s time to work, and when it’s time to play, they play… you have to find that work-family balance. A successful entrepreneur might spend 12 hours a day on a special project needed by an important client or they may work over just to get ahead on work for the following week so that they can have some additional days off for leisure time to not think about work.

Just like everyone else experiences burnout with their jobs, entrepreneurs do too. People tend to think that because entrepreneurs are running their own business that they are immune to the effects of being overworked. In fact, according to the Harvard Business Review, some evidence suggests that entrepreneurs are more at risk for burnout because they’re more passionate about their work and operate in uncertainty.

It’s funny how the very thing that fuels an entrepreneur’s success could be the very thing that burns them out. That’s why, as an entrepreneur, it’s so important to make sure you’re carving out the time to restore your mind, body, and spirit to remain successful. Here are some of the different ways successful entrepreneurs spend their free time.

  • Spend Time With Loved Ones

In the world of entrepreneurs, it’s been said that all entrepreneurs are introverts, and that’s not always the case necessarily. But it does force them to spend a lot of time by themselves working without any distractions to fully achieve the success they have.

One thing about achieving success as an entrepreneur means that you’re going to have to make certain sacrifices and depending on the type of business you’re running, that could mean sacrificing time with loved ones.

It’s not ever an easy thing to do but when entrepreneurs sacrifice their time with loved ones to achieve success in their business, it’s because they know that it’s only going to be temporary and that it’s going to benefit the family in the long run.

Sacrificing time with loved ones might come in the form of missing that baby shower or wedding you were invited too, or missing the soccer game your kid is playing in… These sacrifices are never easy but well worth it in the end when you’re able to spend lots of time with your loved ones.

  • Learn a New Skill/Pursue a New Passion

Entrepreneurs are, of course, passionate about their business but who says they can’t find a leisurely passion to enjoy? Whether it’s working out, taking private music lessons, or joining a bowling league, everyone has hobbies or needs to have something going on in their lives besides work. Pursuing a new passion or learning a new skill is going to give your mind something new to focus on, and that’s a good thing.

  • Travel

When successful entrepreneurs have a bit of free time, sometimes the first thing they want to do is hop on a plane and jet off to the nearest foreign country they can get to! You have to understand that there is so much more to life than just work… there is a whole world beyond the four walls of your office that’s waiting to be explored.

Entrepreneurs take full advantage of this luxury as often as they can, especially for successful online store business owners.

  • Have a Lazy Day

For all the hard work that entrepreneurs put in to run a successful business, they deserve to have a lazy day. What is a lazy day exactly? A lazy day is a day where you don’t do a thing or lift a finger, except for maybe to order takeout food. Maybe on your lazy day, you decide to binge-watch all your favorite TV shows from bed… or do the exact same thing but in a hotel room and order room service all day. Your lazy day is what you make it and entrepreneurs take as many of these days as they possibly can.

  • Self-Reflect

Sometimes in their free time, entrepreneurs will take some time to reflect on their success. It may not be how they spend all of their free time but they will indeed take a little bit of time out to think about where they started, how they got to where they are, and where they want to go. Self-reflection can sometimes be the thing that gives you more motivation to be successful in your business.

  • Spend Time Outside

Running a business forces you to stay cooped inside your office, leaving you little time to go outside and enjoy the outdoors. Sometimes entrepreneurs will spend their free time just being outdoors and taking in the sunshine. Whether it’s playing around in their garden or laying in the hammock in their backyard, they take full advantage of their free time by spending it outside.
