Every year is meant to be a year of improvement. Certain trends change year after year in the business world. 2019 is no different. Brands & businesses will try adopting new things, new rules, new technologies, or anything that’s “new & evolving” in general.

1. People will demand more control:

Midway through 2018, the news of data scandal by Cambridge Analytica & Facebook started circulation, and ever since then, consumers have started acknowledging the threat to their privacy. Around the same time when the data scandal news was hitting headlines, European union implemented GDPR or General Data Protection Regulation.

All of these, alongside Sundar Pichai being asked to testify before Congress, in one year has created massive awareness amongst common consumers. Therefore, people demanding more control over their data is an inevitable trend to witness in 2019.  

2. Subscription service will skyrocket.

From the dental clinics to the entertainment industry, almost every business industries have tried their luck with subscription services in 2018, and 2019 will be the same except at a whole new scale.

Subscription business sales have grown substantially faster than the S&P 500 sales and US retail sales.

A more than five times growth of subscription services than that of its counterparts ensure one thing for sure– 2019 will see a rise in subscription service providers at a scale of unlimited possibilities.

3. The number of remote workers will rise :

For a modern-day working person, the best workplace is a ‘no workplace.’ Traditional 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. jobs will see a decline as the ‘work from home’ professionals will uprise. The statistics are proof of that.

The timing flexibilities in the workplace and the convenience of working from home will be another trend to behold in 2019.  

4. An emphasis on wearable technology(health & wellness):

People expect certain things from their employers. Health & wellness benefits are one of them.

To meet the employee’s expectations, employers will start distributing various wearables to their employees. These wearables can help workers monitor their pulse rate, exercise rate, etc. which is undoubtedly a health & wellness benefit.

Research from ABI estimates a total of more than six million wearables being distributed (3x that of 2016) by employers to their employees as a part of their company-sponsored health & wellness program.

5. Businesses will start adopting new technologies:

Adopting & implementing new technologies will be one of the major shifts in businesses. Going from a brick and mortar place to the digital world is an old trend for 2019. This year is up for something big in businesses.

The rise in the implementation of technologies such as Blockchain, IOT, edge computing, Mall kiosk, Big data, etc. will be huge technological shifts to keep an eye on in businesses of 2019.
