If you’re a small business owner who just happens to be female, then you know how challenging this environment can be. If you’d like to learn more about my top 4 tips to empower yourself as a female business owner, keep reading to learn more.
Get Help at Home
One of the hardest challenges of being a female business owner is finding balance in everything. People often assume that women will take the most care of the children, take care of the home, cook dinner… basically all of the things. I hope your partner helps you out a lot in this regard, especially if you’re both working. However if your business earns well and you don’t have a lot of free time, it might be worth considering bringing some help on board. You can get help around the home in so many different ways, from a weekly or monthly cleaner, through to a casual babysitter to help during your busiest periods. Having the support you need to get things done will help you be a better parent and partner and help you to avoid burnout. Sometimes there is a lot of shame around getting the help you need, but you can’t do it all! Whether your business is focused around trend wallpaper, or helping people work on their website’s SEO, you need support at home so you can give yourself to your business and family.
Take Care of Yourself
As women, we often perform better when we look good. It’s just a fact for many of us. One of the first things to get thrown out the window when we’re time poor (juggling a career and a family) is our self care. This is actually one of the most important things to make sure that you’re regularly doing as it will recharge you and bring you back to your feminine energy. Self care will look different for everyone, maybe it will look like a spa weekend with girlfriends, or learning how to braid hair so you can do a nice updo when your hair is greasy. It’s important to take care of yourself, whether it means buying new clothes, or shoes. If a new handbag makes you feel more confident, it might be a worthwhile investment if it’s in the budget.
Find a Mentor
Finding someone who can help guide you as your business grows or your life changes dramatically can be invaluable! You want to find someone who is further ahead than you, either personally or professionally. It can be challenging to find a mentor, so one of the first things I suggest is just putting that out there, mentioning to friends and family you’re looking for a mentor. You might be surprised who people think to suggest to be your mentor. Being a mentor can be a really rewarding experience, so I’m sure it won’t be hard for you to find the right person. If you feel you could be a mentor to someone else, why not volunteer in that regard? It can be great to give back to the community you’ve benefited from.
Dream Big
You can have it all. Too often women feel intimidated by their dreams and end up just trying to be content with where they are. You can aim higher. The world needs more powerful women with resources to spend their income however they like. One of the best things you can do is to surround yourself with other women who are marking their mark on the world. Join Facebook groups in your industry, go to meetups, go to conferences. Whatever takes your interest, go there and meet high caliber women who can cheer you on when you succeed. Elevating the type of people you spend your free time with will help not only make connections that could help in business, but it will normalize higher levels of success and help you push to a new level. Be very careful about the type of books you read, the media you enjoy.
Sometimes we find ourselves being limited by the beliefs we heard when growing up, or the things we used to tell ourselves when young. It’s important to break free from those mental prisons and to stop limiting ourselves in this way. If you’re finding it really hard to break free from those patterns, it might be worthwhile getting some therapy to help you overcome any mental blocks that might be preventing you from growing.
Learning how to empower yourself as a female business owner can help you reach heights you’ve never reached before. You can make more money, have more impact, and be more fulfilled in your career and home life. I hope these tips help you empower yourself and take yourself to the next level.
