How to Gen Z Involved in Holiday Season Spending

When it comes to holiday spending, it’s a little bit trickier in 2025. Disposable income for the average US consumer is at its lowest level in the past 16 years, sitting at just under 5%. The younger consumers especially are finding times tough during the holidays as Gen Z holds just 5% of all the total US dollars in saving accounts. For this reason, Generation Z is forecasted to spend 23% less this holiday season than just 1 year ago. So how can we get Generation Z to spend this holiday season?

Knowing what they’ll spend it on is one essential step. For example, 43% of consumers say family gifts are ‘non-negotiable’ and must be bought during this holiday season. Similarly, 35% feel the same way about children’s gifts and 28% apply this ideology to gifts for their family’s holiday traditions.

Moreover, there are more options to buy than just a few decades ago. The introduction of Cyber Monday has encouraged a massive number of consumers to purchase by enticing early shopping. Similarly, Buy Now, Pay Later services are another way younger generations are making buying gifts more affordable. While it’s harder to get younger generations involved in holiday gift buying during these hard times, it isn’t impossible. If you want to make sure Gen Z consumers are active with your business, keeping their buying habits in mind is the key to success.
